| Elephant baby "Tuffi", on a train for a circus publicity tour, breaks through a car wall and jumps off a moving train. He falls 10 meters deep into the Wupper river. The elephant was not significantly hurt. |

| A lorry takes out one of the piers. Two piers collapse as a result. Traffic is interrupted for 10 weeks. |

| At the Oberbarmen station, a regular train collides with the special Emperor's train halting at the station. Reason for the accident is a technical defect. 14 persons are injured in the Emperor's train. |

| During night-time renovation works, a clamp is left on the rail on which the train hangs. The first train of the day collides with the clamp and derails entirely, falling into the river. 3 people die and 47 are injured, many gravely. |
